Well done James - this looks excellent.... look's like we're (you're) 90% of the way there. I guess all there is to do is
to make this go live. Many thanks for doing this.
Everyone else - have a look at the pages - you can see it's dead simple to edit. I made a small innocuous change within
1 min learning time. How about adding pics - assume that's quite easy as well?

Cheers

Yeah, it's no problem at all.

Once you're logged in, click on Files & Images at the top. This is how we upload things like photos, membership forms, route maps, etc. If it's just something general, like a picture for a page or a form or something, click on the upload tab in the main area. Use Browse to find the file on your computer (do this more than once if you have a few), then click Upload Files Listed Below.

You can now go back to Site Content along the top. Find your page, and then use the little picture of a tree in the editing window to insert an image. On the right, choose the Uploads folder, type the first few letters of the file name to find it, click it, enter any other info, and click Insert Image. If it was a map or form, you could click the chain icon for insert link, then choose download a file and find it in the list, give it some text, and click Insert Link.

For the photo galleries it's much quicker than that. When you come to upload the photo, click the plus next to galleries in the folder list on the left. Click the page you want the photo to appear on. Then use the upload tab and upload your file. Any pictures in those folders are in the gallery, and if you delete them they're gone.

Hope that helps!

James, Thanks very much for putting that together and helping out. I think we should get it transferred as soon as possible - would you be hosting it then? When it's ready I'll start putting the Sunday runs on rather than the forum.

Would we restrict website update to committee members and a select few other initially or should it be open to all from the start?

It's completely up to you. I'd need a forename, surname, and email address for each of the committee members. I can just set a random password and you'll be able to choose your own by clicking "I've lost my password" (saves giving passwords out online). I'll keep an account on there too just in case anything needs fixing. You can change all this in the Security tab.

As for the hosting, it'd be best to transfer it to your existing host. Mines pay as you go, and if everyone comes on to check race results I might get an eye watering bill!

Are we pushing forward with this then? If so, I'll need to know the necessary passwords and user info so I can upload the site and get everything set up.

James

Sven will need to put you in contact with his sister who currently manages the site for us. Have we decided how it will be hosted yet?

Sure. Can we not just use your existing host?

Ok. I've been in touch with Sven's sister and she's passed on the log in details for your web host. We've hit a slight snag in that the new site needs PHP 5.2 (for the CMS stuff) and your host is using a much older version. I've sent them an email to see if they'll upgrade and I'll let you know what happens.

They can do it. They'll have to move us onto another server (we're on a really old one apparently!) There'll be a few minutes down time while they transfer it across, so I'll see about getting them to do it during the day on Monday. Everything should work fine, but we'll have new software and a new control panel. We might need to reset the passwords on the four email accounts but that should be it. Once that's done, I can test the new site and if everything goes well, get it deployed. I also upped our anti-spam defences on the forum, so if we get any more spammers let me know. Hopefully this'll put an end to 43 pages of unapproved new users! :)

We're live!

For Dave Reed, Geoff LLoyd, James Hall, and Sven Wardle. Your email passwords have changed as a result of the switchover. I've sent Sven the details to forward on to you.

If you need an account to update the site on the CMS, drop me a PM with your name and email address and I'll sort you out an account.

Hey guys,

I'm just trying to add some maps for our up coming events. But even though I live down the road in Catterick Village, I'm embarrassingly bad with Richmond geography! Where abouts is Round Howe? The Cricket Club is the large field in the town centre isn't it? And also, the Arthur Caygill Trophy Road Race is showing as Richmond School and the Market Place on the events page. Is that right? (Does it start and finish in different places?)

Thanks,

James

Hi James, you should've come along last night it was good fun (p.s. in case you didn't know a '2 up' is where we do the time-trial in pairs so you get a chance to rest and recover when the other guys in front). Anyway...

Round Howe is about a mile west of the centre off the Reeth road. There's a road off to give access to a caravan park.
Cricket Club - correct, behind the co-op.
The race HQ is the school and the riders and convoy leave from there but the race doesn't start until the town boundary on the Reeth road. I'm not sure if the race convoy will detour into the market place for the official start or whether it will pause briefly at Calverts for the start flag. Geoff/James ??

P.S. Whilst you're in the website...could you update the membership forms (youth and Adult) so it says "... return this form to: D. Reed (Secretary), 4 Henrietta Close, Richmond, DL10 7TA...or Caygill Cycles."

(P. Garner is no longer secretary)

Thanks Dave! I couldn't make it yesterday, but I know what to expect next time!

I've updated the forms, but you might want to give them a quick check. It wouldn't be the first time sending Mac to PC has made things look a bit funny.
